Call for
Proposals
We are soliciting chapter proposals for our forthcoming ACRL book,
The Community College Library: Instruction and Reference with an
anticipated publication date of Fall 2021. This book is
part of the book series, The Community College Library. With
1,167 public and independent community colleges across the United States,
community colleges are educating nearly half of the undergraduates in the
nation. Community colleges serve a unique student population including
high school students, first-generation students, parents, veterans, homeless
students, returning students, those looking to transfer to a four-year
university, those seeking technical vocational skills, and many more. This
series aims to highlight the work, dedication, challenges, and innovation
occurring in community college libraries across the country.
Focus of the Book:
This edited volume will be comprised of chapters written by
practitioners in the community colleges across the country. For most
libraries reference and instruction are two of the primary services offered to
students by librarians. However, the structure, pedagogical approaches,
innovative programming, partnerships, sustainability, administrative support,
and funding for these core services vary widely between institutions.
Each library and librarian balances a myriad of factors along with the needs of
their students to design different models of these services. This book will
highlight a range of approaches from effective implementation of tried and true
instruction and reference services to challenging the status-quo and risk
taking in providing core services in community college
libraries.
