The annual Maynooth University Library Academic Writing Seminar will take place on Tuesday 11th September. This one-day event is open to all who work in libraries and students undertaking courses in library and information related areas and graduates from related programmes.
Prior to the event, participants will be asked to complete a structured set of short academic writing tasks, with guidance from myself..I've been running workshops for over 10 years and I've found that this is very helpful. On the day we will progress this writing and hopefully participants will have a first draft of an article or other piece of writing by the end of the event. The day is highly participatory.
Learning Outcomes
Develop confidence and motivation to write
Identify publishable material from practice or research
Know how to develop practice (case study) into a peer reviewed publication
Understand the peer review process and develop the resilience to effectively respond to peer review
Identify appropriate publishing outlets
Learn how to write an abstract
Learn how to structure different types of articles
Develop a piece of writing
Be part of a community of practice
In addition, Laura Connaughton, Maynooth University Library, will deliver a one-hour session on poster presentations as part of the programme.
Depending on levels of interest, a follow on event to finalise articles may be hosted in November.
In order to plan for writing tasks, people should e-mail me at helen.b.fallon@mu.ie
if interested in attending, by Sunday 1 July. Please put Academic Writing in the subject line of your e-mail.
This is no charge for this event but registration is essential.
Please e-mail me if you have any queries.

Deputy University Librarian
