Call for Snapshot Presentations and Lightning Talks

‘Pride and Prejudice: the Challenges with Open Access and Open Source’

The 2014 LIR Annual Seminar will take place on Friday, March 21st, in the Trinity College
School of Nursing and Midwifery, D'Olier Street Dublin

The Seminar will analyse the current issues surrounding open access, open source products and their use in Irish Libraries. It will also showcase developments and experiments in the area. A number of highly regarded keynote speakers have been confirmed for the day, including Niamh Brennan from Trinity College Library, and Scott Wilson from OSS Watch.
This is an excellent opportunity to showcase innovative and interesting developments in your organisation.
We would like to invite proposals for snapshots and lightning talks to give attendees a chance to see how your organisation is embracing open access and integrating open source products in your Library.
Snapshots presentations will be 15 minutes and lightning talks will be 5 minutes in length.
Examples of welcome topics include:
o Resource discovery or library management systems - have you implemented an open source product?
o Institutional Repositories – have you adapted an open source product and how have you deployed it?
o Who has an impact in the evaluation process – the library, academics, or your research office?
o Have you implemented a proprietary product that is open access?
o Have recent open access (OA) funder mandates impacted on the volume of uploads to your IR? Have your workflows changed to accommodate this?
o The impact of open source products on distance learning and the physical library
o Leveraging open access to market your library
o MOOCs, libraries and open access resources
o Impact of OA on archival material and Special Collections
We are particularly interested in hearing about your experience of implementing these products, any challenges you faced and how you went about overcoming them. Would you approach it differently next time? The themes are broad, and should not be limited to topics not mentioned above.
Expressions of interest, and proposals for snapshot presentations should be forwarded to LIR-CTTE@listserv.heanet.ie by Friday, February 21st 2014.
Details of previous LIR events, and upcoming workshops can be found at http://lirgroup.heanet.ie/
