Myself and Jon Purcell used lots of Valerie Stevenson’s tips
for our article Self and Peer Assessment as a Method of Improving Quality for the most recent issue of SCONUL Focus. The article is based on our experience of the
NUI Maynooth Library Quality Review. Jon Purcell was one of two external assessors,
while I coordinated the review. Sharing different
perspectives was interesting and we structured our writing tasks in such a way
that it didn’t matter that we didn’t meet face to face. It’s well worth thinking about who you can
collaborate with to bring different viewpoints to your writing. It’s useful to establish at the outset who
will be the lead author and the timeline. SCONUL Focus is particularly appropriate for practice-based articles.
